Boulder is the shortest distance between an airport and a mountain ceremony in Colorado, and the photographers we list here are based in Boulder, Longmont and the surrounding county. They work a small, well mapped set of places, which makes it easy to ask the right questions.
Ask which light they want for your site. Chautauqua's meadow faces the Flatirons, so sunrise warms the rock while the lawn is still empty; groups under 50 need no permit there. Sunrise Amphitheater on Flagstaff Mountain looks east over the plains and is reserved through the city from May through October, with one hour blocks from 6 to 9 a.m. that are the best value in town. Lost Gulch Overlook faces west to the Continental Divide and belongs to sunset, with no reservations and a small lot. Eldorado Canyon State Park needs a special activity agreement and, on summer weekends, a timed vehicle reservation.
Weather here has its own quirks. Chinook winds can gust hard in winter, March and April bring the heaviest snows, and summer storms build over the Divide by early afternoon. September and October are Boulder's finest weeks, with clear sunsets at Lost Gulch and aspens up the Peak to Peak Highway late in September.
